GitLab is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Continuous Deployment to build and lead a globally distributed engineering team focused on continuous deployment capabilities within GitLab's AI-powered DevSecOps platform.
In this role, you will manage a team responsible for building a Continuous Deployment engine that reconciles live state, coordinates durable workflows, and supports AI-native governance. You'll hire and develop engineers, shape team processes, and guide delivery of reliable product experiences for customers. Your responsibilities include:
• Building and managing a globally distributed engineering team in a remote, asynchronous environment
• Hiring, onboarding, and developing engineers with clear expectations for quality and accountability
• Partnering with product management and cross-functional teams to shape roadmap and make architectural decisions
• Setting expectations for reliable, secure, maintainable, and performant delivery
• Encouraging AI adoption as a core part of team workflows to improve efficiency and innovation
• Conducting regular 1:1s, providing continuous feedback, and supporting professional growth through coaching
• Tracking milestone progress, identifying blockers early, and addressing patterns before escalation
• Participating in incident management on-call rotation to maintain availability targets for GitLab.com
The team operates within GitLab's broader DevOps engineering organization, solving complex deployment challenges with close coordination across product, engineering, and infrastructure. The role is part of a highly visible product area that brings together platform architecture, delivery reliability, and GitLab's AI strategy. REQUIREMENTS:
• Experience managing engineering teams, including advising on architecture and contributing to technical discussions
• Experience with distributed systems and durable workflow execution, including state persistence and replay patterns
• Experience building or managing teams working on release orchestration, deployment automation, or continuous delivery at scale
• Familiarity with Kubernetes deployment patterns and GitOps workflows, including progressive delivery strategies (blue/green, canary deployments)
• Experience with policy-based governance and event-driven architectures in reliable, enterprise-grade delivery systems
• Experience building and managing teams in early-stage contexts, including defining processes, hiring foundational team members, and establishing team workflows
• Experience working across functions, exercising judgment, and moving work forward in ambiguous or fast-changing situations
• Experience communicating clearly in writing and conversation while working effectively in a remote-first, asynchronous environment
