Strava is a global community platform for active people, with over 200 million athletes across 185+ countries. The Community Engagement team builds the social features that transform individual workouts into shared momentum—clubs, events, kudos, follower experiences, and shareables.
As Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead a 12-person engineering team (including a tech-lead manager and 11 engineers) responsible for Strava's social fabric. You'll own the technical and product direction for community features, coach senior engineers and the tech-lead manager, and partner closely with Product and Design to define and ship the social roadmap.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing a 12-person team with a focus on coaching and growth
- Owning the engineering roadmap for social features and maintaining high quality and velocity standards
- Partnering with Product and Design to define and deliver the social product vision
- Making sound technical trade-off decisions while staying close to technical detail
- Growing the team through thoughtful hiring and talent development
- Ensuring systems remain fast, reliable, and scalable as the community grows
You bring a product-engineering background with strong product sense, current technical depth (staying in the weeds even if not writing production code daily), and experience managing both managers and senior individual contributors. You have a track record of setting high expectations and leading with agency and urgency. Experience with social, community, or consumer-engagement products is a plus.
Strava operates a flexible hybrid model requiring more than half your time on-site in the Denver office (three days per week). The company is backed by Sequoia Capital, TCV, Madrone Partners, and Jackson Square Ventures, and is focused on building the world's largest community of active people.
