Checkout.com is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Disputes team, which builds tools and services helping merchants manage chargebacks and disputes at scale. The Disputes platform sits at the intersection of merchant-facing products, complex card scheme and regulatory processes, and machine learning-driven decisioning. The team owns a full-stack system anchored by a .NET backend managing dispute lifecycle and scheme integrations, alongside front-end merchant experiences and ML models predicting outcomes and recommending actions.
You will lead a cross-disciplinary engineering team across backend, frontend, and machine learning, managing engineers at various seniority levels. Key responsibilities include establishing healthy engineering practices and predictable delivery cadences, driving operational efficiency through automation and monitoring, and continuously improving delivery metrics (cycle time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, incident response). You'll own quarterly roadmap execution, manage dependencies across Product and Operations, and ensure compliance with financial regulatory frameworks and responsible AI governance in dispute decisioning.
The ideal candidate has built and sustained high-performing teams in both enterprise and scale-up environments, with a proven track record in large, complex, regulated organizations. You should have strong backend engineering fundamentals (ideally .NET/C#), comfort overseeing frontend and ML work, and the ability to drive predictable delivery and operational efficiency using data-driven insights. You thrive in high-growth, fast-paced environments, make sound decisions with imperfect information, and excel at keeping teams steady through ambiguity and shifting priorities. Experience with event-driven architectures, microservices, and REST APIs is expected. You'll partner closely with Product Management on technical feasibility and capacity planning while balancing new features against architectural health.
