Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate to deploy intelligent systems into real environments at scale.
In this role, you'll lead a team of 6 engineers owning end-to-end observability across Atoms' infrastructure, including logs, metrics, traces, and event-based monitoring. You'll independently own the observability and cost initiative roadmap, meeting directly with engineering managers across the company to identify pain points and design solutions. Key responsibilities include driving down time to detect and time to mitigate for production incidents across a system with 60+ services, extending observability coverage into new physical domains (autonomous mining transport, etc.), and maintaining a highly cost-efficient observability stack that runs at a fraction of comparable third-party tooling costs.
You'll represent your domain's technical state in real time, speaking confidently to feasibility, scope, and timelines. The role is roughly one-third hands-on—you'll jump in to unblock the team when needed, using AI tools to analyze issues and surface insights, without sitting on the critical path for delivery. You'll also grow the careers of your team members while maintaining strong technical ownership.
You'll need 2+ years of experience managing and growing engineering teams, ideally in observability, platform, or infrastructure. You should have a strong foundation in engineering architecture and design fundamentals to evaluate your team's technical decisions and push back constructively. Comfort operating without a PM or TPM is essential—you'll independently scope roadmaps, prioritize competing asks, and drive execution with high ownership. Experience with or ability to quickly ramp on the stack (Go, Azure/Azure Kubernetes, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, ClickHouse, OpenTelemetry) is expected; prior Go experience is not required.
Atoms is based in Mountain View with a five-day-per-week onsite requirement for all office-based teams. The company is driven by invention and continuous change, constantly reimagining industries and refining operations.
