Postman is the world's leading API platform, used by 45+ million developers and 500,000 organizations including 98% of the Fortune 500. The company is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the API Catalog team—a critical product that serves as the system of record for API discovery, governance, and compliance across large enterprise infrastructure.
The API Catalog connects to systems where APIs are defined and deployed (repositories, cloud gateways, clusters) and brings them into a single governed inventory. The role involves leading a small, senior, US-based engineering team while spending significant time on cross-functional work that spans multiple teams and dependencies.
Key responsibilities include:
**Team Leadership**: Manage and coach experienced engineers, hire deliberately, set technical standards, provide direct feedback, and reduce single-owner concentration on critical systems by spreading institutional knowledge.
**Cross-Boundary Collaboration**: Secure commitments from specification tooling, API client, integrations, and platform services teams. Define clear contracts between the catalog and dependencies. Sequence work around other teams' roadmaps and unblock reviews without constant escalation.
**Technical Ownership**: The team owns service discovery and ingestion breadth (connecting to multiple repository providers and cloud gateways), enterprise reporting and governance evidence (test/CI reporting, specification linting), gateway federation (managing multi-vendor, multi-account gateway estates), event-driven API support (Kafka and beyond), and product maturity/reliability/telemetry.
The role is ideal for an engineering leader who thrives in complex, multi-team environments and can balance hands-on technical judgment with people management. Success depends on navigating organizational seams, making honest trade-off calls, and enabling a senior team to own their work.
