OpenTeams, founded by Travis Oliphant (creator of NumPy and SciPy), is seeking a Senior Engineering Architect to own the end-to-end technical design of a secure AI test and evaluation platform for Government teams assessing AI systems before deployment.
In this role, you will architect a complex, distributed system spanning shared evaluation interfaces, dataset and model tooling, ML infrastructure, web services, and secure deployment mechanisms for Government environments. You'll establish architecture standards, make strategic build-versus-buy-versus-adopt decisions across the open-source landscape, resolve cross-cutting technical challenges, and guide the solution from concept through deployment and sustainment.
Key responsibilities include defining system architecture and technical roadmaps, developing interface specifications for interoperability, evaluating open-source and commercial technologies with documented tradeoffs, ensuring designs meet Government hosting and security requirements, reviewing engineering designs across teams, establishing architectural standards and design-review practices, and representing the technical solution in Government design reviews and stakeholder discussions.
You'll translate mission, program, and security requirements into actionable technical direction for engineering teams, provide expert guidance on open-source AI frameworks (PyTorch, JAX, Ray, Kubeflow, MCP, open-weight LLMs), identify and mitigate technical risks, support proposal and delivery activities, partner with infrastructure, platform, ML, data, security, and application engineers, and mentor technical leads.
This is a fully remote, U.S.-based role working with a distributed team relying on asynchronous communication. You'll work on a program that helps enterprises and governments build AI they control, govern, and evolve themselves.
