NetBox Labs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong DevOps and platform engineering expertise to build and drive NetBox Enterprise, their on-premises product suite. You will own the design, architecture, and implementation of Kubernetes-based, high-availability on-premises solutions, including control plane applications, telemetry systems, air-gapped installations, and appliance offerings.
Key responsibilities include extending and maintaining the Kubernetes operator that powers NetBox Enterprise's installation, upgrade, and self-healing capabilities in customer environments. You'll develop and maintain the operational management console and associated tools, ensuring seamless user experience for lifecycle management. You'll architect and implement robust multi-stage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and complementary DevOps technologies, driving releases on a six-week cadence (four weeks build, two weeks stabilization).
You'll write Rust and Python across the stack, from operator internals to internal tooling and APIs. You'll build internal tooling and APIs to facilitate integration testing by upstream application teams, validating changes before inclusion in on-premises releases. Documentation and best practice guidelines for deployments are part of your purview. You'll take a weekly turn as Engineering Guardian, fielding questions and escalations from across the organization and working directly with Customer Success and customers to diagnose and resolve deployment and operational issues.
Required qualifications: 5+ years in software engineering, platform engineering, or SRE with proven experience writing robust, maintainable code. Demonstrated expertise with Kubernetes, Helm charts, and deployment automation, including complex multi-cluster and multi-region deployments. Hands-on experience building inside an AI-augmented development harness (Claude Code and agentic tooling). Strong Python skills for tooling, APIs, and automation. Experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions), GitOps delivery (ArgoCD or FluxCD), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform). Strong Linux systems knowledge including administration, troubleshooting, and networking. Solid understanding of software supply chain security, vulnerability scanning, and CVE management. Comfort working directly with customers on deployment and operational issues.
Nice-to-haves include Rust or Golang experience, virtual appliances and air-gapped installation experience, Replicated deployment experience, networking or distributed systems familiarity, 3+ years in B2B software startups, and open-source contributions.
