Xero is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the mobile engineering team behind the Xero Accounting App, a flagship mobile experience serving small business owners globally. This hybrid role is based in Melbourne (with flexibility for Sydney) and focuses on high-velocity product delivery while maintaining system health and engineering excellence.
You will contribute to three core areas: Ship Value (developing high-impact mobile workflows for banking, invoicing, payments, and file management), Operational Excellence (ensuring availability, accuracy, security, and scalability through automation and proactive incident response), and Efficiency (leveraging modern practices and AI to deliver value faster and simplify technical complexity).
The role requires high proficiency in React Native and native mobile development, with proven experience building robust applications at global scale. You should have strong expertise in software design patterns, distributed architectures, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD). You'll be expected to mentor and coach team members, lead by example in code reviews, and foster a collaborative, psychologically safe culture.
Key responsibilities include making data-driven technical decisions, maintaining high standards for code quality and system design, proactively sharing knowledge, soliciting feedback, and helping the team navigate complexity with clarity. You'll work closely with Product, Design, Web, Platform, and Domain teams in a cross-functional, dynamic environment.
The ideal candidate is customer-obsessed, thrives in change, has a bias for action, and views clear communication as a fundamental engineering discipline. You should be comfortable translating business needs into technical specifications and explaining complex constraints with data-driven clarity.
