Forter is seeking a Senior Engineer II to join the Data Products team, which owns the data platform layer underlying Forter's core operations. The team builds and operates real-time data processing systems, quality pipelines, schema infrastructure, and knowledge base tooling that enable agent-driven work at scale. At peak, the streaming systems handle approximately 350,000 events per second while sustaining thousands of transactions per second through Flink-based pipelines.
In this role, you will serve as a technical anchor for the team—a hands-on engineer capable of driving architecture decisions while remaining engaged in execution. You'll design, build, and operate Flink-based streaming pipelines at production scale, forming the backbone of Forter's internal workflows. You'll own data quality and observability infrastructure, including schema contracts, freshness monitoring, ownership registries, and alerting systems that prevent downstream issues. Additionally, you'll build and evolve knowledge base tooling that makes institutional context queryable for agents and engineers, and drive data integrity work by designing systems that recover reliably from failure.
Forter is a human-first, AI-built company that analyzes patterns across a network of over 2 billion shoppers to deliver identity intelligence across the entire commerce journey. The company protects revenue and unlocks customer experiences simultaneously, serving trusted brands including Nordstrom, Instacart, Priceline, Adobe, ASOS, and eBay. Founded in 2013, Forter has raised $525M from investors including Tiger Global, Bessemer, Sequoia Capital, and Salesforce Ventures, and powers commerce decisions for nearly 1 million businesses globally.
Required qualifications include 7+ years of production backend or data infrastructure experience, deep expertise with stream processing systems (Flink, Kafka, or equivalents) at production scale, strong distributed systems instincts prioritizing correctness and reliability, and experience with data quality or observability infrastructure. You should demonstrate excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex systems and facilitate collaborative solutions. An internal product mindset—treating downstream teams as customers—is essential.
Desirable experience includes work with data contracts, schema registries, or data governance tooling; JVM languages (Scala, Java, Kotlin) and big data databases (Aerospike, Elasticsearch); contributions to agentic or LLM-adjacent infrastructure; and prior experience operating as a technical anchor in small, high-scope teams with broad ownership.
