Postman is the world's leading API platform used by 45+ million developers and 500,000 organizations, including 98% of the Fortune 500. The Identity and Access Management team is responsible for building a secure, reliable, and seamless identity platform powering authentication, session management, access control, service accounts, and foundational identity capabilities.
In this role, you will design, build, and evolve backend systems that power Postman's identity and authentication platform. You'll own projects end-to-end: clarifying requirements, driving technical design, implementing solutions, managing rollout, and supporting production. You'll work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to scope, build, test, and launch new features and platform improvements.
Key responsibilities include improving system reliability, scalability, observability, and operational readiness; making sound technical trade-offs between speed, quality, and maintainability; leading execution for projects involving 2–3 engineers when needed; participating in debugging and incident response; raising engineering quality through improved test coverage and code reviews; and partnering with your manager on roadmap and SLAs.
You bring 5+ years of experience building complex backend or distributed systems at scale, with proven ability to design and operate production systems with strong reliability requirements. You're comfortable owning ambiguous problems and driving them from idea to production with minimal supervision. You have experience leading or guiding small groups of engineers and strong fundamentals in distributed systems, networking, data modeling, and system design. You write testable, maintainable code and care deeply about production quality, observability, and operational excellence.
Technical experience valued includes Node.js, Java, Python, Go, or Ruby; distributed systems and cloud infrastructure; microservices at scale; databases, caching, queues, and event-driven systems; testing, monitoring, and incident response. Familiarity with authentication, authorization, identity, RBAC, or security-sensitive systems is a plus.
