Monta powers the EV charging ecosystem with 300,000+ monthly users and millions of charge sessions. The company is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the Financial Services team, responsible for all financial flows through the platform.
This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role focused on owning the architecture and delivery of complex financial systems. The Financial Services team is at an inflection point, processing millions of euros monthly and building next-generation financial infrastructure including new billing models and compliance capabilities for EU expansion.
Key responsibilities include:
- Redesigning Monta's financial backbone by architecting and building a new invoicing system to replace current infrastructure
- Building compliance infrastructure (e-invoicing, fiscalization, VAT) to enable expansion into new European markets
- Improving reliability and scalability of payment processing, reconciliation, and withdrawal systems
- Owning the new invoice system end-to-end, from design through production
- Designing systems that ensure every euro is traceable from summary to line item
- Collaborating across Finance, Legal, Revenue Operations, and Product teams
- Contributing to Financial Services engineering team growth through code reviews and knowledge sharing
Required qualifications:
- Strong backend engineering experience with production systems at scale
- Java/Kotlin preferred, but strong engineers from other stacks welcome
- Experience with financial systems (billing, invoicing, payment processing)
- Proven ability to own architecture across teams and lead technical design for complex projects
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for outcomes
- Comfort navigating ambiguity in regulatory and business contexts
- Curiosity about financial infrastructure and willingness to go deep on domain knowledge
- Advanced AI adoption—daily use of AI tools in engineering workflow with deliberate prompting and iteration
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Bonus experience: EU financial regulations, e-invoicing standards, fiscalization, payment service providers, event-driven architectures (Kafka), or high-throughput data processing.
