Flutterwave is seeking a Senior Core Support Engineer to ensure reliability, performance, and uptime of its cross-border payment platform. This is a senior, largely autonomous role combining technical reliability engineering with payment operations expertise.
The role spans two connected pillars:
Technical Support & Reliability Engineering: Diagnose and resolve complex transaction processing issues across distributed microservices, owning resolution end-to-end. Build script-based automations to eliminate routine manual tasks. Use cloud-native logging and APM tools to monitor system health and catch anomalies before they escalate. Lead resolution of high-severity technical issues, coordinate cross-functional input, and own post-issue reviews. Author clear technical documentation, runbooks, and integration guides; proactively identify and close documentation gaps.
Payment Operations & Optimization: Analyze transaction success rates and failure patterns across payment rails and providers. Contribute performance and reliability data to provider scoring and routing-weight decisions in partnership with engineering and ops leadership. Maintain and apply operational decision frameworks that guide consistent resolution and escalation across the team.
Key responsibilities include performing routine health checks and performance monitoring on core production payment systems; tracking and managing technical support tickets in Jira and Happyfox within SLAs; conducting database inquiries and log analysis to locate root causes of failed transactions or settlement discrepancies; monitoring payment rail and provider success rates; and leading cross-team post-issue reviews during reliability cadences.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline. Minimum 5 years of experience in Application Support, DevOps, Site Reliability, or Payment/Technical Operations roles, ideally within fintech or high-volume transactional platforms. You will mentor other engineers and own gaps in documentation, process, and coverage without needing to be asked.
