Salary: USD 124,000 - 147,000 / annual
Clair is a fintech company on a mission to give America's workers financial freedom by enabling them to access their pay instantly through a digital banking platform embedded in scheduling, workforce management, and payroll apps they already use daily.
As a Senior Engineer on the Core Products team, you will operate like a product manager, taking full ownership of the feature lifecycle from conception through post-launch measurement. You'll lead the adoption of AI-native engineering practices across the team, leveraging state-of-the-art models and building autonomous agents that enhance both core product architecture and internal development processes.
You will work at the intersection of fintech, embedded finance, and real-time payroll systems—building products that handle millions of transactions with sub-second performance. Your responsibilities include:
- End-to-end product ownership: Partner with design, product, and data teams to define technical strategy, question assumptions, and evaluate trade-offs before implementation.
- AI & agentic workflows: Architect and deploy features utilizing AI models and autonomous workflows; drive integration of modern AI tools to accelerate team velocity.
- System-wide architecture: Design resilient systems considering latency, scale, downstream data consumers, and telemetry; ensure data pipelines receive clean, actionable events.
- Business impact measurement: Own features post-launch; instrument key metrics, monitor dashboards, investigate gaps, and iterate based on real user behavior and business outcomes.
You'll work across the full stack (React.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, Expo/React Native on frontend; Laravel/PHP and PostgreSQL on backend; AWS infrastructure) and collaborate closely with a fast-paced, elite engineering team. Occasional travel (2-4 trips/year) is expected for company onsites and project planning.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep experience building, deploying, and maintaining production-grade applications in cloud-native environments
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-assisted workflows for rapid, high-quality code generation
- Track record of prioritizing user impact over technical cleverness and holding yourself accountable to business metrics (conversion, retention, operational cost)
- Strong understanding of event-driven architectures and how core transactional systems feed analytical data engineering pipelines
- Fullstack development capability: React.js, TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), Expo (React Native) expertise required; Laravel/PHP experience ideal but not required if you have demonstrable expertise building performant backend systems at scale; PostgreSQL and AWS proficiency
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with financial technology platforms and payroll systems
- Specific experience in lending, payments, BNPL, ACH, or related fintech domains
