Tide is a fintech platform transforming small business banking across the UK, India, Germany, and France, serving over 2 million SMEs with integrated banking, invoicing, and accounting solutions. The company has raised over $300 million and operates 2,800+ employees globally with technology centers in multiple countries including Lithuania.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be a core contributor to Tide's event-driven microservice architecture, which currently comprises 200+ services owned by 40+ autonomous teams. You will own the full lifecycle of microservices your team builds—designing, building, running, and scaling them globally to support millions of users.
You will work with Java 17 and Spring Boot to build robust backend services, designing and consuming RESTful APIs that are treated as products (many exposed publicly in the Open Banking ecosystem). You'll leverage AWS infrastructure heavily, including PostgreSQL via Aurora for data persistence, SNS/SQS and Kafka for event-driven communication, and modern deployment practices via GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines.
The role emphasizes rapid iteration and ownership: new engineers typically deploy to production within their first two weeks. You'll gain hands-on experience with modern cloud-native practices including Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform, and ArgoCD for GitOps-based deployments. You'll participate in Communities of Practice where engineers across the organization collaborate on technical challenges and set guidelines regardless of seniority level.
Tide values data-driven decision-making, technical autonomy, and engineers who can shape the future of a rapidly expanding global platform. This is an opportunity to make meaningful impact in a high-growth fintech serving millions of small businesses.
