As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will contribute to Tide's event-driven microservice architecture (200+ services across 40+ teams). You'll own the full lifecycle of services your team builds—designing, building, running, and scaling them globally. The role emphasizes ownership and operational excellence. Key responsibilities include: - Building and maintaining microservices using Java 17, Spring Boot, and JOOQ - Designing and consuming RESTful APIs, treating them as products (often public-facing in Open Banking) - Working with event systems (SNS+SQS, Kafka) for asynchronous communication - Using PostgreSQL via AWS Aurora as the primary datastore - Deploying to production multiple times daily via GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines with Sonarcloud and SemGrep - Implementing modern GitOps practices with ArgoCD, Docker, Terraform, and EKS/Kubernetes - Using DataDog for monitoring and troubleshooting - Collaborating with Product Owners to translate business and regulatory requirements into well-engineered solutions Required qualifications: - Proven experience building server-side applications with strong programming fundamentals - Sound knowledge of backend frameworks (Spring/Spring Boot) and microservice architecture - Experience engineering scalable, reliable solutions in cloud-native environments - Understanding of CI/CD fundamentals and practical Agile methodologies - Demonstrated ability to deliver secure, well-tested, well-documented software that integrates with third-party providers - Ability to leverage AI tools and LLMs to improve engineering productivity and delivery velocity Tide offers competitive compensation with share options, generous leave, parental leave, sabbatical options, comprehensive health insurance, mental wellbeing support, learning and development budgets, and flexible work-from-abroad policies (up to 90 days annually).
