Join Xero's Global Product & Technology Operations team as a Senior Engineer - AI Builder, where you'll design and ship internal tools and automations that eliminate toil across the organization. This hands-on role combines modern AI techniques with software engineering to build scalable solutions that empower leaders and frontline teams to focus on innovation.
You will work alongside Embedded Operations Managers, Technical Program Managers, and senior leaders to translate operational challenges into elegant technical solutions. The team fosters a collaborative, high-performing culture built on curiosity, shared ownership, and modern engineering practices.
Initial focus areas include:
- Designing and delivering internal operational tools for status reporting, headcount management, and automated roadmapping
- Applying AI-first engineering using large language models and coding agents to automate complex manual workflows
- Integrating platforms across the systems landscape (Jira, Confluence, Workday, data warehouses) via APIs
- Proactively scanning operating models to prototype new AI-enabled solutions that eliminate friction and scale smoothly
You bring a background in software engineering with proficiency in Python or TypeScript and full-stack tool creation experience. You have hands-on experience applying AI tools, coding agents, and low-code frameworks to deliver production-ready software. You're skilled at evaluating whether to build custom software, implement low-code workflows, or extend existing SaaS platforms. You have practical experience integrating systems through APIs and designing clean data structures using enterprise tools.
You combine a strong product mindset—treating internal stakeholders as valued customers—with a drive for rapid prototyping. You're naturally curious about organizational design and comfortable communicating across both engineering and business operations audiences.
