Perry Weather designs and manufactures outdoor weather safety and monitoring systems, including lightning warning sirens, strobes, PA speakers, and weather stations. These devices are deployed across the country on golf courses, rooftops, and construction sites, operating on solar and mains power with battery backup, connected via cellular, and designed for multi-year lifespans. As a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer, you'll be part of a small, cross-functional hardware and firmware team that owns products end-to-end—from concept through production and field support. You'll work alongside two other engineers to design, build, and maintain the C++ application software running on deployed devices. Key responsibilities include: - Design and maintain C++ application software for sensor integration, audio/alerting control, and cellular connectivity - Debug and resolve issues across a fleet of thousands of deployed units using remote diagnostics, telemetry, and logs, with occasional on-site visits - Work with industrial protocols (RS485, Modbus, I²C) to integrate sensors and peripherals - Build device-to-cloud communication over cellular (MQTT, TLS/mTLS) and secure OTA update mechanisms - Maintain and extend the embedded Linux platform (Debian on ARM), including systemd services, udev, device tree, and occasional kernel/BSP work - Collaborate with hardware engineers on board bring-up, schematic review, and hardware debugging - Build automated testing and tooling for embedded targets, including hardware-in-the-loop testing - Help prioritize and plan work on a small team where your judgment directly shapes the product Required qualifications: 6+ years of software engineering experience with strong C++ on Linux; deep comfort with Linux as a development and deployment target; strong debugging skills for intermittent field issues; Python or similar scripting language experience; clear communication and end-to-end ownership on small teams. Nice-to-have skills include embedded Linux platform experience (BSP, device tree, U-Boot, Yocto/Buildroot), industrial/field-deployed device background (SCADA, telecom, traffic systems, EV charging), cellular modem experience (LTE, AT commands), ability to read schematics and use bench instruments, backend cloud development (C# .NET), and AI agent productivity tools. The role is 5 days per week on-site at the Oak Lawn office in Dallas, steps from the lab with bench instruments, real hardware, and test units.
