CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Flight Software Engineer to join the Internal Missions team and lead the development of satellite flight software and software-in-the-loop testing. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and validating software that monitors, tests, and controls critical spacecraft subsystems including attitude control, command and data handling, navigation, thermal management, and power systems. In this role, you will architect and develop software spanning from Linux-based satellite operating systems to low-level embedded products. You will own the complete software development lifecycle—from initial architecture and requirements definition through implementation, code review, and validation/verification. Your responsibilities include identifying elegant solutions to complex space mission challenges, documenting key technical decisions, and communicating results to cross-functional teams. A key aspect of this position is mentoring and growing a team of spacecraft software engineers as they develop next-generation satellite systems. You will work alongside senior and principal engineers in a dynamic startup environment, collaborating on small, focused teams to develop satellites and prepare them for orbital deployment. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in spacecraft software engineering, with deep expertise in embedded systems, real-time software, and space mission operations. You should be comfortable working across the full stack of satellite software—from high-level mission logic to hardware-level drivers and firmware. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance innovation with reliability are essential. Note: U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status is required to comply with Space Technology Export Regulations.
