Relativity Space is building Terran R, a commercial launch vehicle designed to deliver payloads to orbit. The Vehicle Software team develops safety-critical, real-time control systems that operate under extreme conditions—from Mach 5 atmospheric flight to rocket engine operations. As a Senior Embedded Linux Software Engineer, you'll be a key contributor to the avionics software stack, responsible for developing, testing, and deploying firmware across all avionics boxes in the rocket. In this role, you'll develop embedded Linux applications for network switch and camera platforms, creating production-grade system services deployed at scale. Your work spans the full stack: hardware integration, networking subsystems, video pipelines on embedded SoCs, and direct hardware peripheral interaction. You'll lead system bring-up and platform integration for new hardware, debug complex issues across kernel, drivers, and application layers, and participate in validation and performance tuning in both lab and field environments. You'll collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and platform teams to shape the software architecture, maintain high-performance and reliable code, and directly influence Terran R's flight success. The deployment pace is rapid—you'll see your code run on rocket engines daily. This is a rare opportunity to build aerospace-grade software from the ground up at a critical inflection point for the company, where your technical decisions will have lasting impact on the vehicle and the business. Required: 5+ years developing embedded systems software, strong C/C++ skills, hands-on experience with embedded Linux platforms, proficiency with debugging tools (gdb, strace, perf, tcpdump), and solid Linux networking and systems programming knowledge. Aerospace background is not required; what matters is experience building high-reliability software for complex systems.
