Verkada is a rapidly scaling physical AI platform company protecting organizations through integrated video security, access control, air quality sensors, alarms, intercoms, and visitor management. With 30,000+ customers (including 100+ Fortune 500 companies), a $5.8B valuation, and $1B+ in annualized bookings, the company is at the forefront of the physical AI revolution.
The Connectivity Team owns strategically critical products including Verkada Gateways (bringing cameras, access control, and sensors online globally), Security Trailers (rapid-deploy mobile security units), and Quality Sensors (environmental intelligence at scale). This is a vertically integrated team touching the full stack: embedded firmware, cellular modems and SIMs, Linux networking, cloud backend services, and command frontend.
As a Senior Embedded Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for building and shipping the software and firmware deployed across millions of Verkada devices in 170+ countries. You'll own the complete engineering cycle end-to-end—from scoping and architecture through low-level design, trade-off analysis, and test-driven development. Your work will directly impact how organizations protect their people and places.
Key responsibilities include: architecting and developing embedded firmware and Linux networking solutions; owning features and projects from conception through production launch; methodical problem-solving and debugging; collaborating with product management and cross-functional teams; mentoring other engineers; and contributing to backend services as needed.
You bring 4+ years of embedded engineering experience, proficiency in C, C++, or Go, and a strong track record of shipping production hardware products. Preferred qualifications include experience with FreeRTOS and Embedded Linux, networking and wireless protocols, Go and Python, and basic schematic reading. You must be willing to work onsite five days per week in San Mateo.
