Salary: USD 169,000 - 216,000 / annual
Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The company designs and operates all components in-house, from heat shields to satellite buses, with a mission to expand the economic bounds of humankind through space-based manufacturing.
As a Senior Embedded Linux Engineer, you will join the Flight Software team responsible for developing reliable software that determines how spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules operate throughout their entire missions. You will own all aspects of software development from design through testing and integration.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing reliable flight software for spacecraft and reentry capsule operations in orbit
- Writing quality structured bare metal, RTOS, or Linux-based software for embedded processors in C++
- Owning all phases of software development: design, testing, and integration
- Scoping projects including requirements capture and initial design trades for open-ended problems
- Ensuring system quality and performance through comprehensive software test, verification, and validation (V&V) techniques
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced aerospace environment
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software
- 5+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software
- Strong C++ development experience with deep understanding of language concepts
Preferred qualifications include end-to-end spacecraft development and launch experience, real-time embedded systems expertise, aerospace safety-critical software background, CCSDS telemetry/telecommand systems, F' or cFS framework familiarity, Python or Rust experience, analog/digital electronics knowledge, and experience with SPI, I2C, CAN, or EtherCAT protocols.
