Aeva is developing next-generation 4D LiDAR sensors that integrate all key components onto a silicon photonics chip, enabling autonomous devices like vehicles and robots to perceive their environment with unprecedented accuracy and safety. The Scanning Systems team builds the electro-mechanical and optical systems that enable these lidars to function, tackling complex problems at the intersection of materials science, controls, and manufacturing precision. As a Senior Embedded Controls Engineer, you will own the design and implementation of controllers for Aeva's actuators. This is a hands-on role combining control theory, embedded firmware development, and real-world debugging. You will develop and test control architectures, implement controller changes in C, root-cause performance issues across embedded, electrical, and mechanical domains, and coordinate with reliability and test teams to validate changes through rigorous testing protocols. You bring 3+ years of experience developing controls for motion control applications, with strong fundamentals in PID control, frequency domain analysis, and state-space design. You have shipped production-level real-time firmware in C and are comfortable prototyping and analyzing controller designs in Matlab and Python. You understand motors, encoders, motor drivers, ADCs, and microcontrollers at a working level, ideally with hands-on experience in brushed DC, BLDC, VCM, or MEMS motor control. Master's-level coursework in controls and embedded programming is expected. You are self-driven, take complete ownership of projects, communicate effectively across disciplines, and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments. Experience deploying firmware in automotive, medical, or aerospace industries is a plus. Aeva offers competitive compensation, meaningful equity, comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision, unlimited PTO, and a collaborative team environment.
