Salary: USD 122,400 - 255,000 / annual

Northwood Space is a modern space infrastructure company building a global network of phased array ground stations that enable real-time, reliable communication for satellite missions including national security, global connectivity, and disaster response. The company takes a vertically integrated approach, designing, building, and rapidly deploying scalable systems that power next-generation space missions. As Senior Electrical Engineer (Systems), you will serve as the Responsible Engineer for the electrical system, owning architecture decisions and driving system-level trades across the organization. You will define and architect digital compute and power electronics systems that enable antennas to meet high-rate processing needs globally. Key responsibilities include: - Own electrical architecture and system-level design for high-speed digital communication systems, defining how RF and mixed-signal designs, complex multi-layer PCBs, and subsystems integrate - Define system-level architecture for multi-gigabit networking and complex digital power trees, driving trades that shape architecture decisions across the product - Set technical direction and review schematic capture, layout, and bring-up across digital systems including FPGAs, microcontrollers, and peripherals - Collaborate across hardware and software teams with RF engineers, antenna engineers, FPGA engineers, and firmware engineers to optimize system performance - Guide prototype testing and performance assessment in lab and field environments, focusing on system-level root cause and risk analysis - Partner with production teams to ensure system architecture supports testable, manufacturable products integrated in-house Required qualifications: 5-7+ years professional electrical design experience at system or architecture level; proficiency in high-density/high-speed design (FPGAs, high-speed data converters, SerDes, 10/100 GigE, networking, JESD204C); schematic capture and PCB layout expertise; EMI/EMC troubleshooting experience; PCB materials and stack-up knowledge; full product lifecycle experience from concept through production. Preferred qualifications include 5+ years designing high-speed mixed-signal electronics and complex multilayer PCBs; expertise in multi-gigabit SerDes, DDR, JESD204B/C, and 10/100G Ethernet; deep understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and high-performance board layout; proven hardware development leadership from architecture through production ramp; hands-on debugging with advanced lab instrumentation; ability to lead cross-functional efforts and mentor junior engineers. This position requires obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret Security Clearance. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency required per ITAR regulations. Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
