Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, providing dedicated, secure communications networks to large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. The company operates five satellites on orbit with a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts. With 450+ engineers and a 153,000 sq ft headquarters in Northern California, Astranis is backed by top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Blackrock, and Fidelity.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Software Defined Radio (SDR) Hardware Design, you will lead the design, qualification, and testing of custom software-defined radios for Astranis's payload and telemetry/command systems. This role combines high-speed digital design with RF systems integration in a mission-critical aerospace context.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and optimize state-of-the-art FPGA-based radio systems
- Engineer high-speed digital SERDES interfaces and characterize wideband data converter performance
- Design and layout high-speed digital PCBs using advanced EDA tools
- Conduct full radio signal chain testing and validation
- Select and qualify components that meet stringent performance requirements
- Collaborate cross-functionally with RTL, communications, and RF design teams
- Integrate radio systems into spacecraft platforms
You will work hands-on with RF test equipment (VNA, spectrum analyzers, signal generators) and demonstrate proficiency in digital communications theory, analog/mixed-signal circuit design, and PCB design methodologies. This is a fast-paced environment requiring both deep technical expertise and the ability to move from concept through hardware realization.
