Lab37 Robotics is seeking a Senior PCBA Design Engineer to lead the design, layout, and release of high-reliability PCBs used in next-generation robotic food-production systems. You will own multiple boards across motor control, sensors, communications, and power distribution from early concept through pilot builds and production.
Key responsibilities include end-to-end PCB/PCBA design in Altium Designer, covering circuit design, schematic capture, component selection, stackup definition, design rules, layout, and manufacturing documentation. You'll design multi-layer boards (4+ layers) with controlled impedance routing, high-speed interfaces, and mixed-signal layouts. You'll apply best practices for signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI mitigation, including return path continuity, decoupling strategy, shielding, grounding, and noise reduction.
You'll incorporate regulatory compliance requirements (EMC/EMI, ESD, electrical safety standards for commercial robotic systems) and contribute to CAD libraries while maintaining design standards. Collaboration is central: you'll partner with firmware and controls teams on board bring-up, debugging, validation testing, and iteration based on real-world performance. You'll also work with manufacturing partners on DFM/DFA/DFT, stackup documentation, panelization, test strategy, and production issue resolution.
Additionally, you'll interface with external test labs for pre-compliance testing, formal certification (FCC, UL, etc.), and failure mitigation, and participate in design reviews contributing to system-level architecture decisions.
Required qualifications: 5+ years designing PCBAs for production hardware, proficiency with Altium Designer, experience with multi-layer boards and high-speed design (controlled impedance, differential pairs, length matching, via strategies), strong understanding of mixed-signal layout, grounding, decoupling, and EMI/EMC fundamentals. Hands-on experience with board bring-up, debugging, and cross-functional collaboration is essential. Experience with microcontrollers, motor control hardware, CAN, Ethernet, NFC/RFID is valued. Familiarity with manufacturing processes (DFM/DFA/DFT) and regulatory standards (FCC, CE, IEC/UL) is important. You should be comfortable in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
