Valar Atomics is a Series A advanced nuclear energy company developing scalable, factory-built nuclear power systems for industrial heat, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The company is constructing a pilot plant in Utah and is building out its engineering organization. You will join the Electrical Engineering team within the Fuel Manufacturing engineering group, reporting to leadership and working alongside I&C, mechanical, and nuclear safety engineers. This is a principal technical authority role for the electrical discipline on fuel manufacturing facility projects. Key responsibilities include: • Power system analysis: develop electrical load lists and perform load flow, short circuit (ANSI/IEC), voltage drop, motor starting, and harmonic analysis using SKM Power Tools, ETAP, or equivalent software. • Equipment design and sizing: prepare arc flash hazard analysis (IEEE 1584), substation grounding calculations (IEEE 80), and size transformers, cables, switchgear, capacitor banks, UPS/battery systems. • System design documentation: develop single-line diagrams for MV/LV distribution from utility interface through MCCs and final boards; prepare equipment layouts, cable schedules, tray routing, and underground duct designs. • Equipment specification and vendor management: specify MV switchgear, LV switchboards, MCCs, panelboards, transformers, bus ducts, VFDs, UPS, and generator packages; evaluate vendor bids, review drawings and test reports, witness factory acceptance tests, and lead vendor pre-qualification and audits. • Protection and control: prepare relay settings studies and time-current coordination plots; specify protection relays and metering; develop relay panels, DC control schematics, and MCC wiring diagrams. • Installation and commissioning support: prepare electrical installation specifications; support pre-commissioning activities including insulation testing, continuity checks, relay injection, and equipment energization. • Cross-functional coordination: work with I&C on motor/drive interfaces, civil/structural on substation layout and cable penetrations, and regulatory bodies on compliance. • Team leadership: mentor junior electrical engineers, represent the discipline at design reviews, HAZOP studies, AHJ meetings, and regulatory interactions; direct contractors and consultants. Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience with demonstrated leadership of complex MV/LV design programs, advanced proficiency in power system analysis software, demonstrated ability to lead substation design end-to-end, and deep knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, CSA, and IEC standards for industrial and process facilities. Preferred: EIT or P.Eng./P.E. registration (or active pursuit), nuclear facility electrical experience, hazardous area classification experience, and familiarity with advanced manufacturing or process industries.
