Fourier is developing on-site hydrogen production technology with breakthrough modular electrolyzer architecture. The company is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and develop high-power electrical systems (>100 kW, AC-DC) from concept through field deployment.
You will own the end-to-end design of power converters and their integration into the electrolyzer system, including hands-on bench-top bring-up, testing, and verification. Key responsibilities include:
- Exploring and developing novel architectural concepts for high-power electrical systems, translating early ideation into concrete design decisions that guide system architecture and modularity.
- Selecting and validating converter topologies (AC-DC and DC-DC up to 50 kW) against system-level requirements including input power quality, output current ripple, and efficiency.
- Designing protection circuits for current, voltage, and temperature; low-voltage measurement and communication interfaces (CAN/RS-485).
- Developing isolation and ground schemes, low-voltage/onboard power supply rails.
- High-power PCB design and layout using Altium; component selection (MOSFETs, IGBTs, controllers, op-amps, ADCs).
- Modeling and simulation of power circuits using LTspice, PLECS, and MATLAB Simulink.
- Defining converter control concepts and performing small-signal design and analysis.
- Power loss analysis, thermal design, and power quality design for 3-phase AC input.
- Ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards (UL, IEC, NFPA 70/NEC, IEEE); identifying and documenting electrical hazards.
- Producing high-quality Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) as core design deliverables, clearly communicating topology, protection schemes, and power flow.
- Overseeing procurement and assembly of hardware; supporting system integration and testing.
- Setting up a lab for power electronics development and prototyping.
You will work independently, exercise judgment in design decisions, and take pride in delivering rigorous, well-documented designs with uncompromising safety practices.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with extensive industry experience bringing power circuit designs/products from concept to field deployment. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus.
- Deep knowledge of power conversion circuits and topologies: AC-DC (Totem pole PFC, 3-phase PFC, LLC); DC-DC (Buck, Full bridge, PSFB, DAB, LLC).
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear, accurate, and complete Single Line Diagrams for high-power systems, including protective devices, grounding schemes, metering, and disconnects.
- Working knowledge of electrical safety standards and regulatory frameworks (UL 508A, IEC 62109, NFPA 70E, NEC). Experience supporting UL/CE certification processes strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with LTspice, PLECS, and MATLAB Simulink.
- Schematic capture and PCB design experience with preference for Altium.
- Knowledge of EMI mitigation through circuit design and PCB layout.
- Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, MathCAD, or similar tools for design calculations.
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment: soldering stations, oscilloscopes, power supplies, loads, network analyzers, data acquisition systems, spectrum analyzers.
- Demonstrated safe laboratory practices; familiarity with arc flash analysis, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and high-voltage safety protocols.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Highly desirable: experience designing high-frequency magnetics; familiarity with Power Quality/EMI/EMC/Safety Regulatory Compliance; firmware development for embedded controllers.
