Rocket Lab is an end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for global connectivity, protection, and exploration of the Moon, Mars, and beyond. The Space Systems team has enabled over 1,700 missions for partners including NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer II based in Long Beach, CA, you will participate in the development and test of avionics hardware for spacecraft programs. You will work collaboratively across engineering disciplines on all aspects of electrical hardware development, from requirements definition through design, prototyping, fabrication, testing, and production. This role offers frequent opportunities to test and operate systems on-orbit.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing PCBA requirements in collaboration with other engineering disciplines
- Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer
- Circuit analysis, including power, tolerance, and reliability assessments
- PCBA design verification testing and system integration testing
- Production manufacturing support as needed
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, or other engineering discipline
- 8+ years of electrical hardware design experience, including schematic capture and PCB layout
- Strong background in analog electronics design
- Proficiency with circuit analysis in SPICE and Excel
- Expert-level Altium Designer skills for complex PCB design
- Knowledge of processors, FPGAs, switch-mode power supplies, communication interfaces, and analog instrumentation
- Active Secret Clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI
Desirable qualifications include Master's or PhD in engineering, experience with space environment design (radiation mitigation), high-reliability aerospace applications, rigid-flex PCBs, FPGA design, and embedded software development for ARM processors. The role requires ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
