Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer I to join the Space Systems team at their Long Beach headquarters. This role focuses on developing and testing avionics hardware for spacecraft programs, working across the full lifecycle from requirements definition through design, prototyping, fabrication, testing, and production.
You will collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines to design printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) for spacecraft applications. Key responsibilities include developing PCBA requirements, performing schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer, conducting circuit analysis (power, tolerance, reliability), executing design verification and system integration testing, and supporting production manufacturing as needed.
The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of electrical hardware design experience with strong analog electronics expertise. You should be proficient in SPICE circuit analysis and Excel, with hands-on experience in schematic capture and PCB layout. A Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, or related engineering discipline is required, along with U.S. citizenship due to program requirements.
Nice-to-have qualifications include a Master's or PhD, experience with space environment design (radiation mitigation), high-reliability aerospace applications, rigid-flex PCBs, FPGA design, and embedded software development for ARM processors. Rocket Lab's Space Systems team has enabled over 1,700 missions, including interplanetary exploration, in-space manufacturing, and national security initiatives, with partnerships including NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force.
