In this Senior Electrical Engineer role, you will own the full lifecycle of PCB design—from requirements gathering and schematic design through component selection, layout supervision, bring-up, testing, debug, and system integration. You will develop fuzing circuitry for missile systems and collaborate closely with vehicle development teams to design, document, and produce tailored fuzing systems and effectors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full cycle PCB design including requirements collection, schematic design, component selection, layout supervision or completion, bring-up, test, debug, and system integration
- Development of fuzing circuitry for missile systems
- Close collaboration with vehicle development teams on fuzing systems and effectors
- System interconnect diagram development and wire harness definition for vehicle electronic equipment
- Support and collaboration within air vehicle subsystem development constraints
- Vendor surveys and component sourcing evaluation
- Peer-level and cross-discipline design reviews
- Lab, ground, and flight test build-up and validation
- Low-level firmware development for bring-up and test
- Root cause analysis in support of field operations
You will work in a hybrid arrangement with a primary office in Costa Mesa, California, with travel requirements up to 25% for testing activities.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with 5+ years of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex board designs
- Competence with test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, thermal chambers, current-probes, test automation)
- Familiarity with standard interfaces (Ethernet, CAN, I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB, etc.)
- Familiarity with common MCU, CPU, FPGA devices and technologies
- Knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits
- Proficiency with electronic CAD tools (Altium preferred; Eagle and others acceptable)
- Experience in design for signal integrity and power integrity
- Test experience including data acquisition, data analysis, and project coordination
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
- Ability to travel as required for testing (up to 25%)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Active U.S. security clearance (DoD Secret, Top-Secret, DOE L, or Q)
- 5-10 years' work experience as an individual contributing engineer focused on electrical design, analysis, and testing of fuzing and/or ordnance systems
- Understanding of DO-254, DO-178C, DO-160, and relevant avionics design standards for UAS
- Familiarity with electrical component suppliers
- Experience in UAS, missiles, or maritime programs
- Experience with DoD Weapons Safety Boards
- Experience designing and scaling production of components at volume
- Experience developing or testing complex electrical systems
- Experience with MIL-STD-1316, MIL-STD-882E, MIL-STD-2105
- Experience with JOTP-052 and JOTP-054
- Experience with explosive operations and/or handling munitions
