Impulse is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (Digital) to own the architecture, design, and bringup of custom digital circuit boards for software-defined radios used in spacecraft. This role sits at the intersection of RF systems, FPGA design, and high-speed digital electronics, requiring deep expertise in digital circuit design and hands-on hardware development.
Key responsibilities include designing and bringing up high-speed digital systems that support software-defined radios for uplink and downlink communications. You will develop circuit boards (schematic and layout) with emphasis on digital electronics, perform rigorous analyses and simulations of digital devices and systems, and conduct development testing in the lab from individual digital designs to complete RF systems. You will derive digital hardware design requirements from system-level specifications, own hardware through qualification and flight operations, and establish technical standards while mentoring junior engineers.
The role requires troubleshooting electronics problems at board and system levels, performing failure analysis, and implementing lifecycle improvements. You will contribute to spacecraft RF architecture trades and have visibility across the full electronics development lifecycle.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of professional experience designing digital electronics. You must demonstrate proficiency with electronics component selection, analysis, simulation, schematics, and layout. Strong knowledge of digital circuit design concepts (signal integrity, timing, etc.), high-speed digital simulation software (Hyperlynx, Sigrity, SiWave, ADS, or similar), and solid electrical engineering fundamentals are essential. Experience troubleshooting at board/system level and strong technical communication skills are required.
