Observable Space is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and develop advanced avionics systems for telescopes and orbital hardware. You will own the full electrical engineering lifecycle—from circuit design and PCB layout through prototype validation and production support.
Key responsibilities include designing complex multi-board computers with high-performance SoCs and FPGAs, performing circuit simulations and signal integrity analysis, building and testing prototypes, and collaborating across mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams. You'll apply best practices in EMI/EMC compliance, power distribution, and design for manufacturing (DFM) to ensure reliability in space-grade applications.
You'll use industry-standard tools like Altium and LTSpice, debug circuits with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers, and support design reviews for both prototype and production phases. The role emphasizes rapid prototyping, iterative problem-solving, and a strong product sense focused on field reliability.

The role requires 6+ years of electrical engineering experience with deep expertise in PCB design, circuit fundamentals, wire harnessing, and DFM. You should be comfortable with DC power circuits, common interfaces (I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, MIPI, PCIe), microcontrollers, and analog components. Preferred qualifications include signal integrity simulation, CMOS image sensor experience, radiation-tolerant design, HDI IPC-class 3 systems, and high-speed SerDes interface design.
