Saronic Technologies is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design, specification, and validation of electrical and electronic systems for autonomous maritime platforms operating in extreme environments. This is a hands-on, design-driven role at the intersection of innovation and field performance.
Key responsibilities include developing and documenting system requirements for electrical subsystems (power distribution, computing, sensing, communications); creating engineering drawings (one-line diagrams, ladder schematics, networking diagrams); evaluating and selecting components for harsh marine environments; conducting trade studies benchmarking commercially available systems from adjacent industries; designing system architectures optimizing reliability and maintainability; collaborating with mechanical, software, and autonomy teams on integration; supporting prototype builds, troubleshooting, and commissioning through lab and field testing including dockside and at-sea trials; authoring detailed design documentation; and mentoring junior engineers.
Required qualifications: B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering; proficiency in schematic design tools (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, Zuken); 7+ years designing electrical systems for marine, industrial, harsh, or safety-critical environments; proven rugged electrical system design experience including power distribution and network design; familiarity with low-voltage AC/DC architectures (12/24/48V); experience with fieldbus protocols (Ethernet, CAN, RS485, RS232); understanding of EMI/EMC design principles; excellent technical documentation skills; ability to create engineering drawings; comfort in hands-on R&D environments blending lab and field testing; strong understanding of environmental qualification standards (MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, ISO 16750, IEC 60068).
Preferred: marine, defense, automotive, aerospace, or mining vehicle design experience; AC power distribution knowledge; embedded systems and sensor integration background; navigation sensor integration experience; familiarity with LOS/BLOS communication methods; reliability analysis tools (FMEA, FTA); electrical safety and certification standards (UL, CE, ABS); autonomous or remote system architecture exposure.
