Apptronik is a human-centered robotics company developing AI-powered humanoid robots (Apollo) to support humanity across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and beyond. The company operates at the cutting edge of applied AI, solving complex challenges in safety, commercialization, and mass production.
We seek a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and build electronics for Apollo's sensor bridge—a multi-Gbps, mixed-signal PCBA that aggregates camera sensor data and human-robot interface functions. You will own defined subsystems end-to-end: from requirements and part selection through schematic capture, layout guidance, RTL implementation, prototype validation, and manufacturing release.
Key responsibilities include:
**Electronics & FPGA Design**: Own subsystem design for a complex sensor aggregation board, including schematic capture, layout guidance, and RTL implementation. Carry designs through prototype, validation, and manufacturing release. Generate and maintain comprehensive design documentation (schematics, RTL specs, test plans, fab/assembly drawings).
**High-Speed & Mixed-Signal Hardware**: Design and validate high-speed digital interfaces (CSI-2, GMSL2, FPD-Link, PoC, 10GbE) with attention to signal integrity, impedance control, and length-matching. Contribute to power tree design, sequencing, and low-power optimization. Design for EMC, ESD, and thermal constraints.
**FPGA RTL Development**: Develop RTL in VHDL/Verilog for CSI-2 ingest, Ethernet packetization, timestamp/metadata insertion, and deterministic multi-camera/multi-IMU synchronization. Support timing closure, clock-domain crossing, resource/power budgeting, and high-speed transceiver integration.
**Validation & Debugging**: Develop and execute validation plans spanning board and FPGA testing. Build test fixtures and use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, logic analyzers) to validate latency, bandwidth, and synchronization. Debug across hardware/RTL boundaries using rigorous root-cause analysis.
**Lifecycle & Vendor Management**: Support component lifecycle through PLM systems. Manage relationships with hardware vendors and contract manufacturers to ensure production scaling and design-for-manufacturability.
**Cross-Functional Collaboration**: Work closely with technical leads, project managers, software, mechanical, thermal, and systems engineers. Mentor junior electrical engineers on hardware design best practices, documentation, and troubleshooting.
**Technical Execution**: Execute work streams reliably, communicate progress clearly, contribute to design reviews and defect resolution, provide work breakdowns and time estimates, and proactively raise design or schedule risks.
Required experience includes FPGA hardware design for time-sensitive, high-performance applications (image processing, high-speed data acquisition, real-time networking). Proficiency in FPGA device selection, RTL development (VHDL/Verilog), high-speed interface design (CSI-2, GMSL, SerDes, Ethernet, PCIe), timing closure, clock-domain crossing, resource optimization, transceiver/PHY integration, and FPGA tool flows (Vivado, Quartus, Lattice Radiant) with simulation experience (ModelSim/Questa). Strong understanding of high-speed digital design fundamentals: signal integrity, impedance-controlled routing, differential pairs, stack-up, and timing analysis.
