Generate Biomedicines seeks a scientifically bold Senior Director to lead Protein Analytics & Biophysics within the Therapeutics division. This role sets the vision for measuring biophysical, biochemical, and interaction properties of protein therapeutics across the design-build-test-learn cycle, from conventional analytical characterization through next-generation pooled, miniaturized, and nanoscale measurement platforms. The ideal candidate is a field-leading biophysicist and platform builder with deep experience operating best-in-class analytical and protein interaction workflows, and a track record of inventing, scaling, or industrializing new measurement approaches at orders-of-magnitude higher throughput and lower sample consumption. You will be energized by connecting micro- and nanoscale assay innovation with Generate's AI/ML-enabled protein design engine. Key responsibilities include: setting and driving multi-year scientific and organizational vision for the function; defining next-generation biophysical, biochemical, developability, and protein-protein interaction measurement capabilities with focus on miniaturized, pooled, high-throughput, and nanoscale approaches; leading evolution of conventional analytical workflows (HPLC/UPLC, LC/MS, electrophoretic, thermal stability, light scattering, biosensor platforms); building strategy connecting conventional and emerging pooled/multiplexed approaches; partnering across Prototyping, Technology, Automation, Data Sciences, Machine Learning, Protein Sciences, Biology, and CMC/Tech Ops to design, operationalize, validate, and scale new assay concepts; identifying and implementing external/internal technologies to unlock smaller sample volumes, richer data, higher throughput, and improved sensitivity; establishing data standards, quality expectations, and analytical frameworks for high-throughput measurements; ensuring high-quality, decision-enabling data across Discovery, Candidate Selection, and early Development; driving operational excellence including prioritization, resource planning, milestone delivery, and metrics; representing the function with executive stakeholders and external partners. Leadership responsibilities: lead as a strong people leader and culture builder developing trust, accountability, scientific ambition, and collaboration; build, coach, and develop high-performing team of managers, senior scientists, and technical experts with clear growth paths; guide team through transition with empathy while raising technical bar for platform innovation; foster inclusive, transparent, feedback-rich environment empowering initiative and continuous improvement; set high bar for technical excellence and partnership; develop leadership capability across organization through mentoring and strengthening scientific culture; manage external collaborations, CRO strategy, academic relationships, vendor partnerships, and technology scouting.
