Salary: USD 233,000 - 262,000 / annual
Muon Space seeks an experienced engineering leader to build and scale the Spacecraft Components organization through rapid growth. This role oversees three subteams: Electronics & Embedded (avionics, power electronics, RF, electrical test), Modules & Mechanisms (integrated modules, actuation, design support), and Solar & Deployables (solar arrays, deployable systems). The position reports to the Senior Director of Hardware Engineering.
Key responsibilities include leading a multidisciplinary organization to architect, design, qualify, and deliver a catalog of spacecraft components serving diverse missions. You will own component roadmaps balancing concurrent missions and platform evolution, driving standardization and reuse. You'll establish design, analysis, qualification, and test strategies in partnership with Hardware Reliability & Test teams, and provide engineering support to instrument and propulsion teams.
Collaboration is central: work with Product, Business Development, Systems Engineering, Software, and Operations to ensure components meet mission portfolio needs. Partner with Production and Supply Chain to scale from prototypes to constellation quantities, designing for manufacturability and test. You will own budgets, schedules, and delivery milestones for component programs, and mentor multiple levels of engineering managers to enable scalable organizational growth.
Required: 15+ years designing/managing complex, high-reliability systems in harsh environments (spacecraft, autonomous vehicles, drones); 8+ years managing engineers and engineering managers; strong technical foundation in electrical, embedded, and mechanical design; experience with low-volume, high-mix manufacturing; proven project management from concept to deployment; B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering or related field.
Nice-to-have: flight heritage with spaceflight avionics/mechanisms/solar arrays; experience standing up or reorganizing teams during rapid growth; vertically integrated hardware development; RF hardware or electrical test infrastructure experience; instrument/propulsion system support background.
Role is hybrid between San Jose and Mountain View with regular onsite expectations at both locations.
