F5 is seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead the engineering organization for F5 Distributed Cloud, a next-generation cloud data plane designed to power AI traffic and modern applications. In this role, you will oversee multiple cloud services serving a global user base, driving engineering excellence and scaling innovative teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion the vision and direction of the cloud data plane for AI traffic and modern distributed applications, ensuring high availability, scalability, and state-of-the-art performance
- Take ownership of operating and scaling multiple cloud services, managing distributed systems and ensuring they meet robust performance, security, and reliability benchmarks
- Develop a comprehensive operational strategy that fosters sustainable engineering growth, aligned with business goals
- Drive innovation and empower teams to turn ambitious ideas into groundbreaking realities
- Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies within engineering workflows and introduce tools and mechanisms for automation and seamless coordination
- Develop a roadmap for scaling engineering processes, infrastructure, and global team structures, focusing on efficiency and quality
- Work cross-functionally with product management, design, and engineering leaders to ensure seamless alignment
- Oversee investments in cutting-edge tools, including CI/CD pipelines, project management systems, and communication platforms
- Set KPIs and use data to inform strategic decisions
- Build a high-performance, collaborative culture that inspires engineers to excel
- Plan and deploy resources effectively while managing budgets with precision
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience scaling and leading engineering teams in distributed, global organizations
- Proven hands-on experience operating, scaling, and managing a cloud service at scale (performance, reliability, security)
- Proven experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and designing architectures for AI traffic workflows
- Deep understanding of cloud data planes for delivering scalable, high-performance solutions
- Ability to translate vision into execution and drive operational excellence in fast-paced, high-growth environments
- Data-driven problem solver who uses metrics and analytical insights to guide strategic decisions
- Exceptional collaboration and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to build trust, influence culture, and inspire teams
