Foodsmart is a digital health platform delivering nutrition-driven healthcare at scale through a network of Registered Dietitians. The company serves over 3 million members across employer plans, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and commercial insurers, combining personalized nutrition care, behavior change tools, and food benefits to improve health outcomes while reducing costs.
You will lead Foodsmart's health economics and outcomes research function, serving as the analytical and technical authority for the company's ROI and clinical value proposition. Reporting to the VP of Analytics & Data Science, you'll own the rigorous methodology that underpins Foodsmart's claims about member outcomes and cost savings—work that must withstand scrutiny from payers' own actuarial teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning clinical outcomes measurement across member populations (weight loss, A1c, blood pressure, food insecurity, HEDIS measures, quality metrics)
- Developing and defending Foodsmart's ROI methodology: translating clinical outcomes into economic value and identifying which populations benefit most
- Representing methodology directly to payers and external actuarial/consulting firms, defending technical approaches under real scrutiny
- Grounding individual client value stories in their own members' outcomes rather than generic benchmarks
- Shaping value-based care strategy, including target populations and credible performance commitments
- Building outcomes and ROI methodology as a scalable, repeatable system for new populations and client conversations
- Partnering on peer-reviewed research with academic collaborators
- Translating findings into clinical practice with the care delivery team
- Leading a small team while remaining hands-on with the most complex analytical work
- Leveraging AI and tooling to extend team reach and analytical depth
You are rigorous in payer-level actuarial thinking, fluent in both clinical quality measurement and economic value, and comfortable as a technical peer to external actuaries and consultants. You have proven track record delivering ROI value repeatedly—this is not a role for learning methodology on the job. You think in systems and scalability, translate technical findings into care delivery practice, and treat AI as a genuine force multiplier for your impact. You're comfortable leading while staying personally hands-on with the hardest work.
Requirements:
- Background in health economics, actuarial science, or closely related quantitative field with track record applying it to healthcare cost and value questions. Advanced degree or actuarial credentials (ASA, FSA, MAAA) a plus but not required with equivalent hands-on depth.
- Experience proving ROI and value inside a telehealth or digital health company, or payer/consulting background followed by digital health experience.
- Hands-on experience measuring clinical outcomes and quality across populations, including HEDIS and chronic condition measures.
- Deep, hands-on experience with healthcare claims data (medical and pharmacy/Rx), including practical realities of cost and utilization analysis.
- Deep expertise in causal inference applied to healthcare: matched cohort design, risk adjustment, quasi-experimental methods.
- Direct experience presenting and defending ROI methodology with payers, actuaries, or similarly technical audiences.
- Experience with value-based care arrangements and credible vendor/provider commitments.
- Peer-reviewed publication experience a plus.
- Experience partnering with clinical/care delivery teams to translate findings into practice.
- Comfort working directly with data (SQL, R, or Python) for own analysis.
- Familiarity with AI-native tooling (Claude Code or equivalent) to accelerate analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication for external, technical, and non-technical audiences.
