Lumilens is building critical photonics infrastructure for AI supercomputing, including chip-to-chip optical interconnects and scalable photonic engines. The company is Series B funded and led by industry veterans focused on unlocking faster, cooler, and more efficient computing.
As Senior Director of Hardware Engineering, you will lead a team of hardware engineers across design, validation, and deployment. You'll drive project execution from concept to production, ensuring milestones are met with high quality and efficiency while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include leading hardware engineers through the full development lifecycle, actively participating in board bring-up, debugging, and system integration, and supporting prototype builds, lab validation, high-volume manufacturing, and field issue resolution. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, firmware, signal integrity/power integrity, and manufacturing to ensure robust designs.
Vendor and customer engagement is critical: you'll travel frequently to vendor sites, manufacturing partners, and customer locations for troubleshooting, design reviews, and audits. You'll build strong relationships with suppliers to meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.
You'll oversee the hardware development lifecycle, implement best practices for design-for-manufacturability/design-for-test, reliability testing, and compliance, and track deliverables and project milestones while reporting progress to senior leadership.
Required: Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, 15+ years in hardware design and development with significant leadership experience, proven ability to debug hardware at board/system level using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers), strong knowledge of high-speed interfaces, power delivery, and system integration, and willingness to travel internationally on short notice.
Preferred: experience with data center hardware, networking equipment, or photonic/electrical interconnects; familiarity with compliance standards (FCC, CE, UL, RoHS); strong vendor management and cross-cultural communication skills; track record leading teams through NPI and scaling to volume production.
