Prelim builds digital account-opening infrastructure for community banks and credit unions. The company has sustained over 100% ARR growth for four consecutive years on seed funding and operates a platform critical to how banks onboard customers. You would be Prelim's first dedicated DevOps hire, owning infrastructure end to end.
Key responsibilities:
- Own the complete build, test, and deploy pipeline. The engineering team ships fast; your role is to make shipping both fast and safe through progressive rollouts, fast rollbacks, and deploy confidence mechanisms.
- Establish and maintain infrastructure as fully reproducible environments via code.
- Define and achieve uptime targets that bank customers contractually depend on. Build monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems to identify problems before customers do. Mature the on-call practice from heroic firefighting into a systematic, sustainable process.
- Partner closely with the security function to ensure change management, access controls, and audit logging meet regulatory requirements for SOC 2 and bank due-diligence audits.
- Own cloud infrastructure costs and ensure growth doesn't translate to linear spend increases.
The role is ideal for someone who has been an early or solo infrastructure hire before and understands the pragmatic tradeoffs between what a 50-person company needs now versus what a 400-person company needs later.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles; experience as an early or solo infrastructure hire strongly preferred
- Deep fluency with AWS and infrastructure-as-code in production
- Proven track record building CI/CD pipelines that engineers loved, not just tolerated
- Strong opinions on observability; experience instrumenting systems, defining SLOs, and running incident processes
- Comfortable operating in regulated or compliance-heavy environments, or eager to learn SOC 2, ISO 27001 requirements
- Default to automation and mechanisms over manual processes; strong documentation practices
- Pragmatic mindset about scaling infrastructure needs
NICE TO HAVE:
- Fintech, banking, or other regulated-industry experience
- Multi-tenant SaaS architecture experience
- Database operations experience (backups, migrations, performance tuning)
- Security-adjacent skills: secrets management, network segmentation, least-privilege IAM
