Chromatic is building tools that help front-end teams ensure every state of their applications is tested and approved before shipping. The company operates an elastic browser rendering grid on AWS that processes millions of snapshots daily, serving thousands of teams including BBC, Shopify, and Adobe.
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you'll own the security posture and infrastructure reliability of this mission-critical system. Your responsibilities include designing and maintaining secure, scalable AWS infrastructure using Terraform; implementing and improving security controls from access management to vulnerability triage; embedding with product and engineering teams to assess infrastructure needs and conduct security reviews; and participating in on-call rotations to respond to and resolve incidents.
You'll work on a cross-functional team tackling novel infrastructure and security challenges as the customer base grows and agentic workflows expand the attack surface. The role requires deep hands-on expertise: 5+ years deploying and operating containerized applications in AWS, 5+ years with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), intermediate knowledge of networking fundamentals (firewalls, load balancers, DNS, VPC architecture, zero-trust access via Tailscale), and intermediate cloud security standards (least-privilege IAM, secrets management, API authentication, audit logging, network segmentation, vulnerability triage). You'll also need demonstrable experience with CI/CD tools (CircleCI, GitHub Actions), containerization (Docker), and orchestration.
Nice-to-have skills include SOC2/GDPR compliance knowledge, experience with NoSQL (MongoDB) and relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), comfort in distributed remote-first teams, and non-traditional engineering backgrounds. The position is fully remote for individuals based in mainland US or Canada.
