1Password is seeking a Senior Developer for its CI Architecture team. The role focuses on enabling fast, reliable, low-friction CI/CD workflows for developers and AI agents by owning CI pipeline architecture patterns, developer experience, and application-layer performance improvements.
This is not a runner infrastructure role. You'll work at the intersection of build systems, test architecture, workflow design, and developer tooling, partnering closely with the CI Platform team (runners, orchestration, caching, observability) and product engineering teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and evolve reference CI architectures for GitHub Actions across Product Engineering, including job decomposition, parallelization, caching strategies, test partitioning, and multi-platform builds.
- Partner with teams to redesign slow or fragile pipelines, leading time-boxed engagements with measurable outcomes (e.g., reduce P90 pipeline time, cut rerun rates).
- Improve CI developer experience by making failures easier to diagnose, building tooling and abstractions so best practices are the default path.
- Drive application-layer performance optimization through build/compilation strategies, dependency management, toolchain performance, and test architecture improvements.
- Establish observability-to-action loops, translating CI metrics into actionable architectural changes and helping teams prioritize high-leverage fixes.
- Co-develop golden workflows and guardrails with the CI Platform team, focusing on usability, patterns, and secure defaults.
Required qualifications:
- Experience designing or evolving CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred).
- Hands-on ability to improve build and test performance (compilation caching, dependency optimization, parallelization, test sharding).
- Deep familiarity with multi-platform build/test (macOS, Windows, Linux) and environment constraints.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with demonstrated systems thinking.
- Practical debugging skills and ability to isolate bottlenecks from logs/metrics.
- Comfort collaborating across teams and codebases; ability to influence without direct ownership.
Bonus experience includes knowledge of build systems/toolchains (Rust, Node/pnpm, mobile), monorepos, large-scale CI, developer productivity initiatives, internal tooling (CLI tools, workflow generators), and observability platforms (Datadog CI).
