Salary: USD 199,500 - 209,475 / annual
Archer is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise, advancing sustainable air mobility.
In this Senior Design Engineer role, you will own the detailed mechanical design of Archer's electric engine system, with primary focus on integrating the motor, gearbox, inverter, and thermo-lubrication systems. You will have direct design ownership over multiple components, shepherding them through design, manufacturing/assembly, and test/validation phases.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design mechanical components including gears, shafts, pumps, structural housings, fasteners, and oil transfer devices
- Perform component-level finite element analysis (FEA) to validate designs
- Create detailed component drawings and collaborate with suppliers on manufacturing
- Design test setups for design validation and support prototype builds
- Present designs in engineering reviews
- Develop innovative solutions to complex propulsion system design challenges
You will work in a fast-paced aerospace environment where problems are hard and the mission is high-impact. The role requires 5+ years of mechanical design experience (or 2+ years with a Master's degree) in aerospace, gearbox design, or engine/propulsion systems. A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required (Master's preferred). Approximately 10% domestic and international travel is expected.
