Celonis is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to build and operate the internal platform that powers the company's design operations at enterprise scale. This role sits at the intersection of design, engineering, and product, focusing on tooling, automation, and AI-agent infrastructure that enables designers to move fast while maintaining consistency and quality.
You will design and build internal tools with strong UX that the design organization actually uses daily. Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build internal tools and automations using TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, APIs, and Figma plugin/REST APIs, ensuring they have genuine UX, not just functionality.
- Engineer the agent pipeline: stand up and maintain MCP servers, context pipelines, and integrations connecting the design system to AI coding agents (Cursor, Claude Code, v0, Copilot).
- Automate governance-as-code by building CI checks, release automation, and policy enforcement so standards become pipeline guardrails rather than documentation.
- Own and govern the AI tool stack: evaluate, integrate, license, and roll out tools while partnering with security and legal on data/IP review and human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
- Instrument and report on impact by building telemetry and dashboards for design-system adoption, AI-tool usage, cycle time, and quality metrics that leadership uses.
- Collaborate with designers, PMs, and engineers to evolve the design system and surrounding workflows.
- Build prompt and template infrastructure, reusable prompts, specs, and starter kits to ensure consistent AI-assisted quality across the organization.
- Set tooling and operations standards, lead platform initiatives, and mentor designers and engineers across the practice.
This is a senior, hands-on role with full autonomy over major tooling and platform areas. You will own initiatives end-to-end, set standards others rely on, and mentor across the organization. The role emphasizes bringing AI into workflows thoughtfully—faster and safer, never at the cost of quality or trust.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5–8 years of experience in design engineering, front-end development, design-systems tooling, or platform/internal-tools engineering, with genuine design/UX sensibility (not engineering-only).
- Good UX instincts: ability to design usable tools, translate ambiguous needs into thoughtful solutions, with a foundation in HTML/CSS and front-end craft.
- Strong engineering skills: comfortable building real tools and automations with TypeScript/JavaScript and/or Python, working with APIs, CI/CD, and integrations.
- Solid working knowledge of Figma at organizational level, including plugin and REST APIs.
- Track record of measurably improving how a design or product team works through tooling and automation.
- Hands-on fluency with AI tooling and a thoughtful, responsible perspective on governing it in the workplace.
- Strong product mindset, bias toward ownership, and communication/leadership skills of a senior individual contributor.
BONUS:
- Experience building or operating MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers or similar AI integration infrastructure.
- Experience standing up AI tool governance (access, licensing, security/IP review, usage policy) at organizational scale.
- Familiarity with design tokens and Code Connect, including Angular/TypeScript and CSS custom properties.
- Experience building dashboards and telemetry for tooling adoption and impact.
- Background supporting design in complex B2B/enterprise or data-heavy environments.
