Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced technology. The Imaging team builds and fields state-of-the-art camera and sensor systems deployed to solve real security challenges. This role is a Mission Software Engineer on the Imaging Interfaces team—not a pure product development position, but one focused on keeping fielded systems alive, triaging issues across the full stack, and serving as a technical representative for products in customer integrations.
You will own fielded system success, responsible for the health and uptime of deployed imaging systems. When issues arise—whether in code, firmware, network, or hardware—you triage, diagnose, and drive resolution. You'll develop and extend modular software services running on edge-compute devices in austere environments, ensuring they are reliable, observable, and maintainable by other engineers. Work directly with field operators and non-technical users to diagnose and resolve issues on deployed hardware, requiring clear communication under pressure.
You'll serve as a subject matter expert in integrations with other products and teams, sometimes remotely and sometimes on-site. Develop broad fluency across the hardware, firmware, networking, and software stack, applying it to optimize how services interact and degrade gracefully when components fail. Collaborate across firmware, hardware, and platform engineers to plan, build, and test complex functionality. Travel is expected approximately 15% of the time for field testing and customer integrations.
Required: 5+ years software development with meaningful production responsibility (owning systems post-launch, not just shipping features); strong Python and C++ skills; 5+ years Linux-based environments including bare-metal hardware; demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve issues across system boundaries without full visibility; strong written and verbal communication; willingness to travel 15%; eligibility for U.S. Secret clearance.
Preferred: gRPC or similar RPC frameworks; Linux systems service management and observability; React/JSX; Nix/NixOS; experience supporting fielded or deployed systems.
