Mercury is a fintech platform providing banking, treasury, and financial workflow solutions for startups and technology companies. As a Senior Data Scientist focused on Growth, you will be a strategic, product-facing partner to Growth product, design, engineering, and marketing leaders, shaping how Mercury acquires, activates, and retains customers.
You will own the growth funnel end-to-end—from first visit through signup, approval, activation, and retention—building the metrics, driver trees, and narratives that reveal where Mercury is winning and where improvements are needed. Your work will directly influence product direction and roadmap prioritization. You'll design and analyze experiments (A/B tests and quasi-experimental methods), size opportunities, and communicate findings to executives and cross-functional teams with a clear point of view.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner with Growth product, design, engineering, and marketing leaders to identify high-impact business questions and influence what gets built.
- Own the growth funnel end-to-end, building metrics and narratives that show performance across the customer journey.
- Size opportunities and help prioritize the Growth roadmap and annual planning with clear recommendations.
- Design, analyze, and communicate experiments to determine whether changes worked and guide next steps.
- Calibrate rigor to the decision: fast and directional when appropriate, rigorous when stakes are high.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Analytics Engineers to build trusted, self-serve growth metrics.
- Communicate findings to all levels, from individual contributors to executives, with a clear point of view.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience in data science, product analytics, or growth analytics, including 3+ years partnering closely with product growth teams.
- Strong product sense and a track record of shaping product direction (not just measuring it), with examples of work that changed what a team built.
- Deep experience with experiment design and analysis, funnel analysis, cohort analysis, and retention analysis.
- Fluency in SQL and a statistical programming language (Python or R).
- Experience with product analytics and BI tools such as Amplitude, Hex, Omni, or similar.
- Comfort with ambiguity and respectfully disagreeing with senior stakeholders, backed by evidence.
- Clear, concise communication skills; ability to tailor messages to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Nice to have: experience in consumer or SMB fintech, or mobile product analytics.
- Familiarity with Snowflake and dbt is a plus.
