Roblox is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to build the data foundation for growth and marketing measurement. You will be embedded in the Growth Organization, reporting to the Engineering Director, and working alongside Marketing, Data Science, and Product teams.
In this role, you will design, build, and operate reliable batch and streaming pipelines that unify paid, owned, and organic marketing data (spend, impressions, installs, sessions, conversions) with in-platform user behavior. You will own the data foundation for Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM), building well-documented, versioned, analysis-ready datasets and backfills that Data Science teams use to train, refresh, and validate models on a regular cadence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and operating reliable batch and streaming pipelines integrating marketing data with user behavior
- Building the data foundation for MMM with proper versioning and documentation
- Partnering with Marketing and Data Science to build attribution and funnel data products
- Defining shared metrics (acquisition, activation, retention, reactivation, LTV) across the organization
- Architecting event taxonomies and logging standards for acquisition and lifecycle events
- Integrating with ad channel platforms, mobile measurement partners, and third-party sources with attention to data quality, freshness, identity resolution, and privacy
- Setting standards for table design, data quality monitoring, observability, lineage, and documentation
- Supporting experimentation and incrementality work by making experiment data easy to join with spend and outcomes
- Mentoring other engineers and collaborating with Data Engineering, Data Infrastructure, and ML Platform teams
- Ensuring measurement approaches respect user privacy and safety
You are a technical leader who has initiated and led challenging technical solutions, enjoys digging into large ambiguous problems, and builds strong partnerships with non-engineering teams. You are analytical, user-oriented, and team-oriented.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of industry experience as a data engineer or data-focused software engineer building scalable batch and streaming pipelines (SQL and Python, PySpark or Scala)
- Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster or similar) and large-scale data processing (Spark, Flink, Kafka or similar), including multi-terabyte datasets
- Strong data modeling skills with experience designing dimensional or event-based models
- Experience working directly with business and data science partners to turn ambiguous questions into durable data products
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern warehouse or lakehouse technologies
- Comfort with standard software practices: code review, CI/CD, testing, and monitoring of data pipelines
Bonus qualifications:
- Hands-on exposure to marketing measurement (MMM, attribution, incrementality, or experimentation platforms)
- Experience with marketing and ad data sources (ad platform APIs, mobile measurement partners, CRM or lifecycle tooling) and identity resolution
- Experience with data privacy constraints in measurement (consent, aggregation, clean rooms, differential privacy)
- Experience in consumer products with growth, ads, personalization, or lifecycle focus
