Enpal is Germany's first green unicorn, building an integrated platform for decentralized energy solutions—solar systems, battery storage, wall boxes, smart meters, and heat pumps. Metrify is Enpal's smart metering unit and digital infrastructure for a smart energy ecosystem, with tens of thousands of units installed.
You'll join a two-person Data Engineering team as a Senior Data Engineer, owning the central data platform that powers Analytics Engineering, BI, and AI-enabled business teams. Rather than building for end users or dashboards, you build for other engineers: you own the pipelines, integrations, tooling, and guardrails that let domain teams ship data products safely and fast.
Data arrives from metering devices, operational and legacy systems, external partners, and APIs. You'll design and operate scalable pipelines end-to-end—from source integration through dbt models on Snowflake, orchestrated with Airflow on Azure. You'll own the integration layer, connecting heterogeneous source systems and making those integrations observable and resilient. You'll build self-service scaffolding and developer tooling so domain teams can create models, sources, and tests without touching platform internals.
You'll drive the platform vision, defining where the data platform needs to go in terms of tooling, abstractions, self-service capabilities, and guardrails. You'll act as the technical authority for data platform architecture, setting patterns for other engineers to follow. You'll manage infrastructure as code with Terraform, enforce federated governance through data contracts and Snowflake RBAC, support data privacy and compliance (including metadata-driven PII handling), and build observability and testing into the platform so failures are caught early. You'll partner closely with Analytics Engineering and BI leads to gather requirements, review designs, document patterns, and continuously lower the barrier to entry.
Enpal offers a hybrid working model with flexibility to relocate abroad for up to 30 days per year. The modern Berlin-Friedrichshain office includes height-adjustable desks, table tennis, stocked beverage fridges, and barista coffee. You'll experience transparent all-hands meetings, short decision-making processes, and an open feedback culture. Benefits include 29 vacation days plus Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve off, discounted Wellhub membership, and corporate benefits.

- Deep, hands-on dbt experience at scale, especially operating the platform around data modeling
- Solid Snowflake knowledge: RBAC, performance, and warehouse management
- Comfort with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and GitOps (ArgoCD)
- Experience with orchestration (Airflow) and containerized workloads (Kubernetes/AKS)
- Familiarity with modern ingestion frameworks (dlt or similar)
- Software engineering fundamentals: confident Python and advanced SQL, testing, reusable libraries, and a platform-as-product mindset
- Excellent communication and stakeholder empathy; ability to enable other engineers and navigate ambiguity in a cross-domain mesh
**Nice to Have:**
- Experience building internal developer platforms or paved-road tooling
- Knowledge of data contracts and federated data governance
- GDPR/DSGVO-aware data handling experience
- Streaming experience (Kafka or similar) and work with PostgreSQL
