We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team to build, scale, and optimize our data platform, reporting infrastructure, and data-driven products. This role requires full-time onsite presence in the Toronto office to support collaborative team dynamics and innovative problem-solving.
The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering expertise—developing and scaling applications supporting our product suite—with data engineering capabilities, designing and implementing robust data infrastructure for efficient data movement and transformation.
Data Engineering is critical to enabling insights and innovation at BitGo. You will develop and maintain the platform that makes data accessible and actionable for engineering, product, analytics, and data science teams, empowering them with tools and frameworks to seamlessly integrate data into their products. You'll collaborate closely with talented engineers, analysts, data scientists, product managers, and security experts across multiple domains.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines that collect, transform, and curate data from internal systems
- Integrate external data sources to enrich the data platform
- Develop applications supporting customer-facing products and internal systems
- Enhance and expand blockchain reporting infrastructure and automated reconciliation systems
- Ensure high data quality and auditability across all pipelines
- Optimize data systems for near real-time processing and insights
- Develop and customize self-service tools empowering data consumers to extract and analyze data from large-scale platforms
- Research, evaluate, and prototype new technologies to drive continuous improvement
Requirements:
- Engineering degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- 6+ years of combined Software Engineering and Data Engineering work experience
- Strong experience with server-side languages (TypeScript, Node.js, Python)
- Strong experience with SQL databases (Postgres, MySQL)
- Strong experience with RESTful API design
- Experience building data pipelines/ETL with familiarity of design principles
- Experience with data warehouse technologies and data modeling best practices (Snowflake, BigQuery, Spark, Presto, Druid, etc.)
- Strong experience with systems design and event-driven systems (Kafka)
- Self-starter capable of adapting quickly and being decisive
- Experience with unit and functional testing and debugging
- Experience with microservices and service-oriented architectures
- Proficiency with Git/GitHub, branching methodologies, code review tools, CI tools, JIRA, Confluence
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments
- Comfortable with on-call rotation participation for system support
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience in Financial Services and/or Financial Technology
- Understanding and strong interest in cryptocurrencies and blockchain industry
- Experience with large-scale, real-time, and distributed applications
- Experience with data governance, handling PII, and data masking
