Duolingo is seeking a Senior Creative for Social to join its Brand Marketing Studio in New York. This role sits at the intersection of social media strategy and real-world cultural impact, transforming internet trends, memes, and cultural moments into breakthrough creative ideas across social platforms, experiential activations, out-of-home advertising, partnerships, events, and unexpected cultural touchpoints.
You will be responsible for turning social moments into ideas that extend beyond the feed—including stunts, billboards, product collaborations, mascot appearances, partnerships, and pop-ups. You'll provide clear, actionable creative feedback to social content creators, helping elevate their work to be more ownable, culturally relevant, and distinctly Duolingo. Operating on internet timelines, you'll develop and ship ambitious creative often moving from opportunity to execution within one or two weeks.
Your work will span identifying validated trends, memes, fandoms, and cultural moments where Duolingo can play a meaningful role; creating original social-native content yourself when the strongest idea is a great post, video, or meme; and stewarding Duolingo's distinctive voice, visual language, characters, and humor across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, and emerging platforms. You'll collaborate closely with social, brand marketing, design, production, PR, partnerships, and legal teams to determine what can be made and how quickly. You'll present ideas clearly—from fast Slack pitches to fully developed creative decks—while raising the creative standard of daily social work and spotting opportunities with business impact and award-winning potential.
This is a hands-on role where you're part content creator, part copywriter, part art director, and deeply fluent in internet culture. You operate at both strategic and tactical levels and aren't too senior to make things yourself.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of experience creating culturally relevant work for social platforms, brands, agencies, media companies, or your own audience
- Portfolio demonstrating social-native thinking, strong concepts, and excellent creative craft
- Deep fluency in internet culture with instinct for distinguishing emerging opportunities from dying trends
- Clear point of view on what great social creative looks like now and where it's heading
- Strong copywriting skills and sharp eye for art direction, design, and visual storytelling
- Expertise in short-form video, including concepting, directing, and getting work produced
- Experience turning cultural insights into ideas beyond social posts (experiential activations, earned-media stunts, OOH, products, partnerships)
- Experience giving direct, useful creative feedback that helps other creators improve ideas and execution
- Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels; comfort with making things
- Strong taste, low ego, and collaborative mindset
- Ability to work from or relocate to Pittsburgh, PA or New York, NY
EXCEPTIONAL CANDIDATES MAY ALSO HAVE:
- Experience working across both in-house and agency or studio environments
- Genuine obsession with Duolingo's mission, product, and characters
